the money grab
This past weekend at the Vancouver Island Exhibition (VIEX) we held the now infamous Alternative Groove Money Grab skateboard contest which resulted in more cash given away, fun and good times than a barrel of monkeys. Our Own team killed it like no other and held down the contest with Jordan Van Gyzen taking a solid 1st place in his last year of 12 and under. Among him picking up a win is shop homie kyle berry who grabbed the second slot in the 13-18 catagory.
The contest tightened up quickly in the open catagory with a bunch of riders all stomping their runs, but the best of the best soon rose to the top. Our own Chase Torrie rode with confidence and style but missed a few key tricks. OG Jordan “Chippy” Pletz put on an impressively technical and consistant run. Island killer Brandon Soros took home the second place prize of $500.oo with two sick runs. but the ultimate prize of all was taken by the youngest in the competition, 13 year old Shay Sandiford took first prize with a 100% final run where he did not miss one single trick and finished it with a perfectly stomped backside flip on the kicker to rail.
Check out the video from Dan Gardiner below for some clips of our team members warming up on the course pre contest.
