This past weekend at the Vancouver Island Exhibition (VIEX) we held the now infamous Alternative Groove Money Grab skateboard contest which resulted in more cash given away, fun and good times than a barrel of monkeys. Our Own team killed it like no other and held down the contest with Jordan Van Gyzen taking a solid 1st place in his last year of 12 and under. Among him picking up a win is shop homie kyle berry who grabbed the second slot in the 13-18 catagory.
The contest tightened up quickly in the open catagory with a bunch of riders all stomping their runs, but the best of the best soon rose to the top. Our own Chase Torrie rode with confidence and style but missed a few key tricks. OG Jordan “Chippy” Pletz put on an impressively technical and consistant run. Island killer Brandon Soros took home the second place prize of $500.oo with two sick runs. but the ultimate prize of all was taken by the youngest in the competition, 13 year old Shay Sandiford took first prize with a 100% final run where he did not miss one single trick and finished it with a perfectly stomped backside flip on the kicker to rail.
Check out the video from Dan Gardiner below for some clips of our team members warming up on the course pre contest.
Thanks to all our sponsors: LRG, Nixon, KR3W, Supra, C1RCA, Volcom, Dakine, Vans, Enjoi, Sitka, DC, Emerica, Analog, RVCA, Almost and Cons.
Want to take your skateboarding to the next level? The days its no longer about switch this, triple flip that, or who has the longest hair and tallest tee. To get noticed you gotta change your game right upside down! This is actually what could be the first ever street backflip, stomped by Calgary’s own Derrick Timoshenko.
This past weekend our very own wake skate wizard Tanner Champion was, well, the champion at the British Columbia Provincials in lovely little Deep Cove! He threw down, Stomped some extreme stunts, took home the cash money for 1st prize, and probly took home some fine looking babes too. For even more treats for your peepers watch one of Tanner’s numerous killer edits below.
Daniel Gardiner, I feel as though so much has been said about this kid already, a shredder to the end, and an extremely talented filmer, this hero handles all fronts. These are all obvious reason he got to go to a place where only most snowboarders dream off, a place you get slide snow in the summer! But this time, I’ll let his riding do the talking. So sit back, relax, and enjoy some summer snow shred bangers from shop homie Dan Gardiner. (While your pumped up on his X-treme stunts and getting on your own snowboard, swing by the shop for some fresh 2010/11 snowboard gear at a killer 40% off!)
It’s coming!!!! August 20th Frank Crane Arena, Money Grab skate comp $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd, $250 for 3rd, 20 plus sponsors filling our prize fund with swag!!! And it is all for you guys!!! Be there… AG
Looks a lot like Summer but sounds a lot like a Boxing day savings!! Come get the goods before we close on Sunday 31st July and turn “either, or” into “I’ll take them both!” AG
Does your girlfriend keep catching you checking out other chicks cause you got no shades?
Well we here at alternative groove have the solution for you, our New Deathwish and Shake Junt shades! fresh hot and new outta the box come get some while you can.
But the real reason you’ll be needing those new sunglasses to protect your peepers from the video below. Your eyes can’t properly handle the awesome of Chase Torrie on a skateboard without proper UV Ray eye protection. Watch the 2:14 seconds of beautifully filmed skateboard magic captured by Daniel Gardiner and don’t be concerned when your jaw hits the floor.
Jordan Van Gyzen, he can skate, play hockey and and annoy anyone better than I know, but did you also know hes a ladies man? Thats right ladies and gents, he may still be afraid of cooties but he wheels more broads than Hugh Hephner. Little know fact Jordan has more girls phone numbers in his phone than the rest of the team combined and multiplied by 3 (even justin Taron!) But did I mention he can skate too! but you probly know that already seeing by the clear HD video evidence of Jordan’s shredding (probly why he gets the babes) captured by our own Daniel Gardiner
True skateboarders have such a great devotion to skateboarding that many describe it as love. Their first love, or their only “true” love (also many skaters are socially ackward and therefore can’t score a date). Well if you ask me its a bunch of balonge …jokes jokes my friends, but, these two shredders right here do have this love for skateboarding. Follow AG riders Chase Torrie (Also Representing Converse Flow) and Justin Taron (repping Circa Shoes flow) as they enjoy a summer’s day of park skating and an afternoon street push.
